Hi All,
It was great to see you at church today. The Bishop missed out not being there – though he did enjoy the family history conference that he attended. With Kristin Moon being out of town, Br. Moon was watching the kids and he asked me to hold Gavin during sacrament meeting. With a sleeping baby in my arms, my note taking was limited, but here we go.
Christina M was released as the announcement / e-mail coordinator and Sung K was released from the FHE committee. They will be married this Saturday!
We had 3 great speakers and a wonderful musical number. Emily M played a piece on the piano for us before heading off to her Young Women’s class.
Carrie F spoke on scripture study. Earlier this month she went to the stake offices to complete her temple recommend and she met with Pres. Mortensen. He challenged her to “open her scriptures every day.” She wasn’t sure about the challenge, but that night – before she climbed in bed – she remembered the challenge and opened her scriptures. She read a few scriptures and figured she had met the challenge. The next evening she opened her scriptures again, using the ones that she had marked while attending seminary. Carrie then told us a few stories where her heart was pricked with remembrance as she turned to different parts of her scriptures. Carrie said that we can all read the scriptures and each take something different away from them. She then extended the same challenge to us that Pres. Mortensen gave to her – open your scriptures every day.
Christina M spoke on integrity. She defined it as the quality of being whole, entire or intact. It is different than being honest, which is being truthful. Christina told a story of 3 men walking through an airport, one of which was very wealthy. The wealthy man stopped and put a quarter into the slot to buy a newspaper – and then took out 3 papers and gave one to each of the other 2 men. One of them reached over and put in his own quarter saying that he wouldn’t sell his integrity for a quarter, a dollar maybe, but not a quarter. Later in the airport the wealthy man was spotted putting lots of quarter into a newspaper slot. Carrie also recounted the story of Joseph, who was sold into Egypt, and how his integrity stayed intact all through his life and his many trials – even to being able to save Egypt and his family as well.
Terry E got up and announced that he was the adult speaker of the bunch :-). Terry spoke on the Beatitudes. He said that we need to submit ourselves to God and experience the miracle of change. We need to have Godly sorrow and repent. We need to be meek and teachable. Terry also pointed out that true happiness comes when we lose ourselves in the service of others. Terry also suggested that peace comes from within our own heart.
FHE is at the church on Monday evening. Zumba is at 6pm on Tuesday and 10 am on Thursday. Dance class is at 7pm on Thursday. Next Sunday is Bishopric Wives dinner, please bring a salad or dessert to share.
Thanks for a wonderful Sabbath and I hope to see you at some of the activities this week!
With much love,
Debbie
