Around the Lake Ward

Happy Sabbath!

There were many releases and sustainings today, here is the list:
Released: Bob B from Fitness Committee, LaRee A as Family History Leader, Maureen C as Home Evening Leader, John W & Martine J as Ward Missionaries.
Sustained: Chris H as Ward Missionary, Cindy W as Family History Leader, Patricia M as Home Evening Leader, Carrie F as Emergency Prep Leader. Bill K will be in charge of our Ward hikes.

We had the new Relief Society speak in sacrament meeting today.  When the meeting started, only Lisa P was sitting on the stand - the other 2 speakers weren't in the chapel.  Donna H came in just before the sacrament and CIndy H just after the sacrament.  When Lisa P got up to speak she said that she had leaned over to President Rasmussen and told him that he might need to be prepared to speak if the other 2 speakers didn't show up!

Last Sunday, Linda P spoke on an article in the 2001 Ensign by Vaughn J. Featherstone titled Sacrament Meeting and the Sacrament.  Linda pointed out that the sacrament is for all of us to repent of our sins and to renew our covenants.  We all come from different backgrounds, but we all need the sacrament.

Linda suggested that we should arrive early to church and maintain the reverence of the chapel.  We should talk and fellowship each other in the foyer.  The sacrament is the closet we can get to the atonement.

The Law of Sacrifice needs to be understood.  There are 3 types of sacrifices:  sin offerings, burnt offerings, and peace offerings.  Sin offerings.  Sacrifice started with Adam and Eve and sin offerings were needed for atonement before fellowship with Christ.  Burnt offerings got it's name from the smoke of sacrifice ascending to heaven symbolizing our complete devotion to God.  Peace offerings signify our peace with God and our further enjoyment of that peace.

Around the Lake Ward

Hi All,

It was great to see you at church today.  The Bishop missed out not being there – though he did enjoy the family history conference that he attended.  With Kristin Moon being out of town, Br. Moon was watching the kids and he asked me to hold Gavin during sacrament meeting.  With a sleeping baby in my arms, my note taking was limited, but here we go.

Around the Lake Ward

Hello all,

Debbie was sick on Sunday so she missed the meeting. I thought I would write a brief update since important organizational changes happened.

Our Relief Society presidency and leaders were released today and a new Relief Society presidency was sustained and set apart. The outgoing leaders that were released are Kristen C, Margot N, Robin A, Amber Z, and Patricia M. In addition, Dale P was released as Employment Specialist, Dean T from the Fellowship Committee and as Activities Co-Chair, Thom Z from the Break-the-Fast Committee, and Lisa P as Employment Specialist and Ward Missionary. These people have all served faithfully and expertly. It was difficult to release them.

The new Relief Society presidency and leaders are: Donna H, president; Cindy H and Diane H, counselors; Lisa P, secretary; Visiting Teaching Coordinator, Amber Z. In addition, Barb L was called as the new Employment Specialist and Dean T was called to serve with LaRee A as a Ward Singles Representative (serving on the Irvine Stake Singles Committee).
