Around the Lake Ward

Happy Sabbath,

We had 2 wonderful speakers last Sunday who spoke on "Why I believe" with emphasis on a conference talk.

Scott G referenced David A. Bednar's talk, "Receive the Holy Ghost" during his talk.  Scott said when we receive the Holy Ghost it is an admonition to act and not simply to be acted upon.  The Holy Ghost bears witness of all truth, he is the messenger and witness of God and Christ.  The power of the Holy Ghost is for everyone.  The gift of the Holy Ghost is for those who have been baptized by the proper authority.  To have the companionship of the Holy Ghost we need to desire it, invite the Holy Ghost into our lives and obey God's commandments.  Scott told of an experience early in his life when he first felt the spirit.  Scott testified that if we live worthy and listen to the Holy Ghost we can work miracles in our lives and in the lives of others.

Jeannette J stood up and said that during Scott's talk she had taken a pen and crossed out her talk because they had the same exact talk.  Jeannette told of an experience when she was a little girl and the home teacher taught her mom to drive so that she could attend church without her non-member husband.  She remembers a blessing given to her and the love and blessings she felt from her Heavenly Father.  Those experiences make her reflect on those who don't have the gift of the Holy Ghost.  Jeannette said that we need to rescue those who aren't active in the church.  She likened our knowing and feeling the love of Jesus Christ to having full cell phone coverage and then those who don't to being in the "dead zone" of cell phone service.  We need to bring them in, so they get the full reception again.

Jeannette said that many of us are concerned about our loved ones and their rescue.  We need to pray to know how we can be involved in the rescue.  We need to use the "sandwich technique" from business - compliment, critique, compliment - but in the Mormon way - love, meat of the gospel, love.

It was a great meeting filled with the spirit!

With much love,
Debbie
